01The word “hell”
The words often translated “hell” — Hebrew Sheol and Greek Hades — refer to the common grave of mankind, not a place of fiery punishment. Even Jesus was in Hades for parts of three days (Acts 2:31).
02A God of love
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
1 John 4:8 · ASV
The idea of torturing people forever contradicts God’s justice and love. The Bible says “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), not eternal torment.
03Hope instead of fear
Since those in the grave can be resurrected, the Bible’s teaching about hell is actually a message of hope.
