01The dead are not suffering

“For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything.”

Ecclesiastes 9:5 · ASV

The Bible teaches that at death a person ceases to exist; “in that very day his thoughts perish” (Psalm 146:4). The dead are not watching us, and they are not in pain.

02The hope of resurrection

Jesus called death a sleep and raised people to life to show what God will do on a grand scale. He said that “all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice, and shall come forth” (John 5:28, 29).

The Bible foretells “a resurrection both of the just and unjust” (Acts 24:15), back to life on a peaceful earth.

03Comfort for those grieving

Knowing the truth about death removes fear and gives a reason to hope. Many who have lost loved ones find real comfort in this promise.
